Perth Scuba Diving - Something for Everyone

With thousands of kilometres of coastline, hundreds of nearby islands, abundant and varied marine life, a mix of tropical and temperate climates and numerous shipwrecks just offshore, the diving and snorkelling in Western Australia is unbeatable.

Rottnest Island

Only 10km offshore from Perth, Rottnest Island provides one of the best diving locations to the metro Perth area. With the lay of the island the water is always flat on one side or the other. The island has a abundance of limestone reef complexes with deep caverns and swim throughs. Each different corner of the island has different fish life due to the way the Leewin current circles around the island at different times. Visibility ranges from 10m-35m on a good day.

Perth Local Scuba Diving

Locally around the Hillary's is ideal for the divers who don't want to commit a days diving at Rottnest. These dives support the same fish life and caves as Rottnest Island, only it is just in front of your door.

The Key Biscayne Oil Rig is another site that makes Perth Scuba Dving unique and is a favourite among technical divers worldwide.

Abrolhos Islands

With the Abrolhos Islands 4 hours up the coast, these uniqe islands are the most Southern coral reef in the world. This is due to the Leewin current. With all this combined it gives Perth a large variety of diving on offer all year around.

The Leeuwin current brings warm tropical water to Western Australia, and allows spectacular coral reefs to grow much further south than they would otherwise. Water temperatures around Perth range from 19 to 24 degrees celcius, making scuba diving in Perth comfortable year round.

Dirk Hartog Island- Coral Bay

The area of coastline from Dirk Hartog Island to Coral Bay at the start of the Ningaloo Reef is some of the the most remote diving in Australia. Located on one of the most inaccessable ruged coast lines on the Australian coast.

The diving on this part of coast line is very diverse due to the warm tropical water starting to greatly influece the marine life around Carnarvon. The Southern Image will be looking at spending 2-3 weeks in this area conducting 2 x 5-7 day charters exploring the undived area of coastline.
