OK, in the absence of a gear thread I've opted to ask my question here.

OK, so now I know what an SMB is (bluddy acronyms)what exactly is the other bit, the finger spool? How big, what does it look like? Is it a small reel or is it something else?

Ptetty easy to use, almost inpossible to get wrong. Most of us use them for asmall back up in -40m or less dives.

Looks like a neat piece of gear. I was looking for a reel to attach to my dive flag for shore diving (mine only has 10m of cord)so this might be the ticket for that too as I didn't want a large bulky reel.

What stops it from coming unreeled? I manage to get tangled in mermaid lines I can't imagine the mess I could make with a spool that unwound in the water.

You hook the line through a double ended snap bolt. Line needs to be kept under tension.
